Must know
- Only for a jitney league, at a club where a superadmin has enabled Jitney Leagues. Admins find it on the league’s Jitney tab. Convenors find the same screen under Teams in the League Portal.
- Build teams only shows a preview. Nothing is saved until you click Publish teams, and members can’t change their answer for the night once you publish.
- Staff are never locked out. You can mark anyone in or out at any time, even after members’ cutoff. Once a night is published, attendance changes don’t change its teams. Unpublish and rebuild instead.
- You can unpublish a night only while none of its games has a result. Clear the result on the Draws tab first.
1
Pick the night
Open Jitney and choose the Night. Each night in the list is tagged N in, teams published or club closed. Under it you see Games start {time} and members can answer until {time}.
2
Check who's in
Who’s in lists every curler registered in the league, their preferred positions, and In / Out buttons. The counts line reads {n} in · {n} out · {n} no answer. A curler with no answer is treated as not coming, so mark the people standing at the desk In.
3
Add drop-ins
Under Add a drop-in, type a name in Search club members by name and click Add — in next to the right person. Any active club member who isn’t registered in the league can drop in. They get a drop-in badge for the night, and the night shows on their My Teams card with their team once you publish, and their points. The drop-in is recorded but not charged.
4
Build the teams
In Build tonight’s teams (A preview — nothing is saved until you publish. The ice holds N games tonight.), click Build teams. You need at least two curlers in. The summary reads {teams} teams · {games} games · {placed} of {attendees} curlers playing, followed by the number of repeat teammate pairs and how many teams have a skip who asked to skip.
5
Adjust
Each team card shows its curlers and positions and who it plays (vs Team 2 · {sheet}). Use a curler’s Move {name} to select to move them to another team or to Sit out; the preview is re-scored straight away. Click Re-shuffle for a different set of teams. To go back to an earlier set, type its number in Seed and click Use seed.
6
Publish
Click Publish teams. You see Published {n} teams and {n} games, and Tonight’s teams lists each team with its opponent, sheet and time. Members, drop-ins included, see their team on My Teams.
How the shuffle picks teams
- As many people play as the ice allows. Teams are paired into games, so there is always an even number of teams. When the numbers don’t divide evenly, some teams play one short (14 curlers with 4 per team gives two fours and two threes). Anyone who still can’t fit is listed under Sitting out: …. They are the people who answered last, and desk drop-ins come after registered curlers.
- Positions follow preferences. Each team gets a skip who asked to skip wherever possible, then a vice, then the front end. A three-person team plays skip, vice and lead. A curler playing somewhere they didn’t ask for is marked Not a position this curler asked for.
- Fewer repeat teammates. The shuffle spreads out pairs who have already played together on earlier nights in this league. Each team card says how many of its pairs have played together before. Opponents are paired to avoid repeat match-ups too.
- Experience balance. When at least half the curlers have their years curled on file, teams are also evened out by experience (the summary adds experience balanced).
- Repeatable. Reloading the page shows the same preview. Re-shuffle picks a new seed, and the seed box brings any earlier one back.
