# What are the minimum volunteer hours for renewal?

> Some clubs require a minimum of approved volunteer hours from last season before you can renew your membership.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Only clubs that switch this on enforce it, and only for **renewals** — a first membership is never blocked.
  * What counts is **approved** hours in the **previous** season. Pending hours do not count.
  * If you are short, checkout stops with a message and tells you to **Contact the club**.
</Note>

When you buy a membership at a club that enforces minimum hours, checkout compares your approved hours from last season with the club's minimum. If you fall short you see:

> Membership renewal requires \{min} volunteer hours in \{season} — you have \{approved} (\{short} short). Contact the club.

Nothing is charged. The club can approve outstanding hours, waive the requirement, or take your registration another way.

To see where you stand before you renew, open **My Account** → **Volunteer Hours** in the new look: the **Volunteering** card shows *\{n}h approved (+\{n}h pending)* and a badge — **\{n}h short of \{min}h minimum** or **\{min}h minimum met**. Shifts the club marks as worked add approved hours automatically (using the shift's credit hours or its length).
