# How do I use a discount code?

> Entering a promo code at checkout, and how automatic discounts such as early-bird appear without one.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * At checkout, the **Order Summary** has a **Discount Code** field: **Enter code** and **Apply**. You see **Discount applied: \{description}** or **Invalid discount code**.
  * Automatic discounts — early-bird, family or multi-league rules the club set up — apply by themselves and show as *\{name} … (applied automatically)*. You do not need a code for them.
  * Discounts are recalculated by the server; the amount on your receipt is what was actually charged.
</Note>

Codes come from the club — a newsletter, a flyer, an email to returning members. Type it exactly as given into **Discount Code** and choose **Apply**. The discount line appears under **Discounts** in the summary and the **Total** drops. Codes have validity dates and may be limited to certain memberships or leagues, so a code that worked last year may be **Invalid** now.

In the signup wizard, any automatic discount already shows on the **Confirm** screen under its own name — so the total you see there already includes it.
