# How do I choose the fields on Step 1?

> Pick, order and require the curler-profile fields the signup wizard asks for, including CCM's 18 Step 1 fields.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * First name, last name, date of birth and gender are always asked (**System field — always asked**); email comes from the login. Everything else is your choice.
  * Required fields are enforced when a **new** curler profile is created. For returning curlers they are only enforced if you turn on **Ask returning curlers to confirm missing required fields at checkout**.
  * The two CCM questions with no built-in column — "Are you a new member at this club?" and "How did you hear about us?" — are added as club questions, which needs the **Custom Information** feature (a CCM-parity feature migrating clubs normally have).
  * Your club's own profile fields can be asked here too: turn on a field's **Registration** switch under **Settings → Profile Fields**, or pick it on the **Club question** tab.
  * You cannot write your own hint text under a field; only fixed hints such as the phone format exist.
  * Phone fields take ten-digit numbers only, as CCM's did. Whatever punctuation the curler types, the number is saved as ###-###-####; an extension or a short number is refused. The check applies when a new curler is created, never to phones already on file (including imported ones).
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Your information card">
    Go to **Settings → Registration Form** and expand **Your information**. Under **Fields asked on this step** you see the current list. Until you have saved once, a banner says "Showing today's default field list — it is not saved as this club's list yet…" with a **Save as this club's list** button.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add, order and mark fields">
    Click **Add field** and pick from **Built-in** — Secondary email, Home phone, Work phone, Work extension, Cell phone, Street, Address line 2, City, Province / State, Country, Postal / ZIP code, Emergency contact name, Emergency contact relationship, Emergency contact phone, Emergency contact phone 2, Skill level, Number of years curled, Delivery hand, Preferred position — or from **Club question**. For each row set **Visible**, **Required**, its **Band** (**Personal information**, **Emergency contact** or **Curling**) and an optional **Field label (leave blank for the default)**. Use **Move up** / **Move down** to order; **Remove field** takes it off.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a club question if you need one">
    On the **Club question** tab choose **New question…**, type it, pick an answer type (Short text, Long text, Dropdown, Date, Number, Yes / No) and click **Create and add**. The same tab lists your club's own profile fields, each with a badge naming its answer type, including **Email**, **Web address** and **Multi-select**. The row you add carries the same badge. A field with one of those three types can only be created under **Settings → Profile Fields**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide how returning curlers are handled, then save">
    Set **Ask returning curlers to confirm missing required fields at checkout**: off shows gaps in a soft "Confirm your information" panel; on blocks checkout until every required field is filled. Click **Save changes**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

**Settings → Profile Fields** shows the per-field policy for the fields every member has. Its banner says this builder decides which fields signup asks for, and in what order, and its **Open Registration Form** button brings you here. When your club has the **Custom Information** feature, the page is in the Settings menu and also holds your club's own fields (see [How do I add my own profile fields?](/club/memberships-and-members/how-do-i-add-my-own-profile-fields)). Without the feature it is reached only by its address.
