# How does end-by-end scoring work?

> Record a full line score with hammer for each game in a scores-mode league, and understand what it does — and does not — feed into standings.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * End-by-end scoring works **only in scores mode**. Turn it on with **End-by-end scoring** and set **Ends per game** in the league wizard (classic: **Per-end line scoring**).
  * The line score determines the win, loss or tie, and that outcome is what the points rules turn into standings points. The **Ends Won** standings column comes from the separate ends-won selects, not from the line score.
  * Line scores are admin-only; members can still report the outcome.
</Note>

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the game">
    On the **Draws** tab click the game. In a league with end-by-end scoring on, the **Game result** dialog shows an **End** grid with a **Total** column.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the ends">
    Type each end's score for both teams (up to 8 points per end). Use **+ Extra end** for extra ends (up to four) and mark **First hammer**. Tick **Final — game tied** if the game ended level.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save line score** (or **Clear** to remove it). The outcome is derived from the totals and standings update.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Printed score sheets carry the same grid, extra ends, hammer and LSD boxes, so a paper sheet can be typed in end for end afterwards — see [How do I print score sheets?](/club/leagues-and-draws/how-do-i-print-score-sheets).
