# What are gift cards?

> Sell gift cards on your website or issue them at the front desk; members redeem them at checkout.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Available when a superadmin enables **Gift Cards** for your club (it also needs Uplifter's platform-wide gift-card switch). The page is hidden in the classic view.
  * Redemption is **never** switched off by the club toggle, so cards you have already sold keep working even if the feature is later disabled.
  * The card **code is shown once** when you issue it — "for security it is stored hashed and can never be shown again." Copy it before closing the dialog.
  * Listing needs *financials.view*; issuing needs *financials.create*.
</Note>

**Financials → Gift cards** ("Issue cards sold at the front desk and track their balances") shows the **All cards** table — card (last four), status (**active** / **depleted** / **cancelled**), balance, recipient, issued date and a **Cancel card** action.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Issue a card">
    Click **Issue gift card** ("Record a card sold or comped outside the platform…"). Enter the **Amount**, optionally a **Recipient name** and **Recipient email** — with an email you can tick **Email the code to the recipient** — and a **Note (optional)**. Click **Issue card**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the code">
    Copy the code now; it will not be shown again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Members can also buy cards on your public site at `/gift-cards` (**Buy a gift card**, $5–$1,000, with recipient, sender and a personal message). At checkout a card pays all or part of an order, with the remainder on a card.
