# What is a membership type?

> Membership groups and their terms, what they hold, and how they tie into league eligibility.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Members → Memberships** is the **Memberships** feature, a CCM-parity module migrating clubs normally have. Staff can also use it in the classic view, where it appears as CCM's **Membership Types** list.
  * A membership type is a *group* (name, price, billing, restrictions) with one or more *instances* — the terms actually sold (for example "2026-27 Full Member").
  * A type shows on signup while its **Show on sign-up** switch is on and it has an Active instance covering today. **Order** sets the list order, here and in the wizard; types with no Order list alphabetically after the ordered ones. See [How do I hide a membership type from sign-up or change its order?](/club/memberships-and-members/how-do-i-hide-a-membership-type-from-sign-up-or-change-its-order).
</Note>

A membership group carries **Membership Name**, **Description**, **Recurring Membership**, **Default Price (\$)**, **Billing Interval** (One-time, Yearly, Monthly, Per Session), **Allow Auto-Renewal**, **Auto-Generate Instances** with **Generation Lead Days**, a **Purchase Window** and restrictions — Age, Gender, Capacity, Medical, Level and Waiver.

Each instance is a term with its own name, price, start and end dates, **Draft** or **Active** status, **Auto-Renew Date**, registration availability, an **Early Access Code** and an optional **Early-bird discount** (an amount off through a last day), applied automatically at signup. A one-time group gets one active instance automatically; recurring groups create instances as drafts that you **Publish**.

Membership types connect to leagues through the league's **Membership Requirement**: tick the memberships a curler must hold to register. Two club-wide gates in the registration form builder — **Require a membership (CCM rule)** and **Membership first, separately (CCM mode 1)** — cover the CCM behaviours.

The **Description** is rich text, so formatting shows in the signup wizard. After creation, **Manage** opens a sheet with **Details** (name, description, **Show on sign-up**, **Order**), **Instances** and **Restrictions** tabs.

In the classic view the form shows **Title**, **Price**, **Show On Sign-Up**, **Published**, **Discount Amount** / **Discount End Date** and **Description**, and the list has an editable **Order** box on each row. The two discount boxes are editable and write the same early bird as the new panel; the **Discount End Date** keeps CCM's meaning, the first day at full price.
