# How do I set up skill levels?

> Members → Skill Levels holds your club's list of levels (Novice, Club, Competitive…) that league, membership and booking level restrictions and the club site's level filter use.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Skill Levels** is a CCM feature, on for a club that comes from CCM: the import switches it on and brings your CCM skill-level values across as levels. On the **Features** page it sits with the CCM features. With it off, the page and the level pickers are hidden, and any levels already stored are kept.
  * The page is **Members → Skill Levels**. It used to sit in a **Training** section, which no longer exists.
  * It stays in the sidebar in the classic view too. It has no classic twin, so it opens in the new look.
  * A level that a league, membership or booking type requires cannot be deleted. The message names what still requires it.
  * The levels are managed with the league and program permissions, which the access-level screen still files under **Training**: adding a level needs *Create Training*, editing and reordering *Edit Training*, deleting *Delete Training*. Staff with none of the Training permissions do not see the sidebar entry.
</Note>

A skill level is one entry in your club's own list, such as *Novice*, *Club* or *Competitive*. Leagues, memberships and bookings can be limited to certain levels, and the club site can filter by level.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the page">
    Go to **Members → Skill Levels**. The page is headed **Skill Levels**, "Define skill and program levels for your organization". The **Getting Started** panel on the dashboard home also links here with **Set up skill levels** until your club has a level.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a level">
    Click **Add Level**. In **Create Level** enter a **Name** (for example "Bronze, Level 1, Beginner") and an optional **Description**. Tick **Set as default level** if this should be the default. Click **Create Level**. You see *Level created successfully*.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Put them in order">
    **All Levels** lists them from lowest to highest: "Levels are sorted from lowest to highest. Drag to reorder." Drag a row to move it. You see *Level order updated*. **Search levels...** filters the list, and the default level carries a **Default** badge.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Edit or delete">
    Use the row's actions. **Edit Level** changes the name, description or default. **Delete Level** asks *Are you sure you want to delete "\{name}"? This action cannot be undone.* If anything still requires the level, the delete is refused with, for example, *Can't delete this level: it is required by 2 leagues or programs, 1 membership. Remove the requirement there first.* Take the level off those leagues, memberships or booking types, then delete it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Using levels on a league

On the league wizard's **Requirements** step, the **Level Restriction** box ("Require members to be at one of the selected levels") lists your levels. Click a level once to **Warn**: registration goes ahead, with a notice when the curler's level does not match. Click again to **Block**: curlers who do not match cannot register. A third click clears it. With no levels yet, the box reads **No levels configured.** with a **Create levels** link to this page.

In the signup wizard, a league that blocks the curler's level is greyed out with *\{name} does not meet this league's skill-level requirement.* At the staff proxy desk the same reason is shown, but staff can still book the league.
