# What is an event?

> A single dated item — a party, meeting, clinic or tryout — as opposed to a league or a bookable venue.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * **Events** is a CCM-parity feature (CCM ran Events Booking), so a migrating club normally has it. If **Registrations → Events** is missing, ask a superadmin.
  * Event types are **Class**, **Clinic**, **Party**, **Tryout**, **Meeting** and **Other**. Every event starts off **internal**: it is on your calendar and Today's Ice, but not on your website, until you open it for public registration.
  * An event has one date and time. Something that repeats weekly with teams and standings is a league; something members rent by the hour is a bookable venue.
</Note>

Events cover the club's one-offs — the opening banquet, the AGM, a Saturday learn-to-curl clinic, a junior tryout. Each has a name, a type, a date and start/end times, an optional location (one of your facilities), an optional price and capacity, and staff assignments.

You reach them under **Registrations → Events** (page title **Events**, button **Add Event**). The event's detail page shows whether it is **Published** or **Not published**, offers **Preview** and **View on site** once it is public, and has a **Register** button (**Register Member**) for adding attendees yourself. Attendees carry a status of **Signed Up**, **Present** or **Absent**, which is where the Events Portal check-in comes in.

Events also appear in the **Club-wide** column of Today's Ice and on the program calendar, and the members' area shows upcoming events in the site sidebar's **Upcoming events** block if you use it.
