# What is a bonspiel?

> A program kind where teams enter as units and play a knockout or Schenkel draw — available when Bonspiels is enabled.

  **Must know**

  * Available when a superadmin enables **Bonspiels** for your club. Without it the **Bonspiel** choice does not appear in the program editor (CCM clubs ran bonspiels as ordinary leagues, and still can).
  * Three formats: **Double knockout (A and B events) — drawn in full up front**, **Triple knockout (A, B and C events) — drawn round by round**, and **Schenkel — every team plays every round, no elimination**. There is no single-knockout or round-robin bonspiel format.
  * A bonspiel is a program, so it has the usual registration, price, capacity and waiver settings — but entries are teams, not individuals.
  * New view only; there is no classic twin for the Bonspiel tab.

Create one from **Registrations → Leagues → Add League** by setting **Type** to **Bonspiel (teams enter as units, knockout draw)**. It then gets a **Bonspiel** tab on its detail page with four summary tiles — **Teams entered**, **Events drawn**, **Games played**, **Champions** — and four cards:

* **Teams** — Team, Skip, Roster, Entry, Division. Teams arrive through online registration, or you can **Add team by hand** (this records no fee).
* **Draw** — pick the **Format**, review **What will be drawn**, **Adjust seeding**, then **Draw bonspiel** (double knockout) or **Draw round 1** (triple knockout and Schenkel).
* **Schedule** — **First draw date**, **First draw time**, **Minutes between draws**, **Fill from start**, **Save schedule**: this places games on dates, times and sheets.
* **Brackets** — click a game to enter its result; Schenkel shows a **Running table** (W-L-T, Pts, Ends, LSD).

Once scheduled, bonspiel games behave like league games: they appear on the Draws tab, the public schedule, Today's Ice and the rink TV board, with undecided sides shown as **Winner of …** / **Loser of …**.
