# How do I issue a new display address?

> Replace a screen's address when it has been shared beyond the club, and reload every TV that used the old one.

<Note>
  **Must know**

  * Issuing a new address invalidates the old one at once: a fresh load of the old address shows **Display unavailable**.
  * A TV that already has the old board open clears at its next refresh to **This display address is no longer active**. It does not follow the new address by itself, so walk to each TV and open the new one.
  * Only staff with *settings.edit* can do this.
</Note>

The display address is the only thing protecting a board, so if it has been posted somewhere public or forwarded outside the club, replace it.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the screen">
    Go to **Settings → Club Displays** and find the screen's card. The **Display address** box explains: "Anyone with it can see this board. Issue a new one if it has been shared beyond the club — the old address stops working immediately."
  </Step>

  <Step title="Issue the new one">
    Click **New address**. The confirmation asks "Issue a new address? Every TV using the old one goes blank until you update it." Confirm; the toast reads "New display address issued — update the TV".
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update every TV">
    Click **Copy address** and open the new address on each TV that showed this screen. Until you do, those TVs show **This display address is no longer active**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Deleting a screen also retires its address for good. Switching **Screen is on** off is a gentler option: open TVs show **This display address is no longer active**, and the board comes back by itself at the next refresh once you switch the screen on again.

A dropped wifi connection or a brief outage on our side is different: the TV keeps showing its last good board and catches up when the connection returns, so a network blip never blanks the wall.
